4:06 all UB, I think I was muscle cleaning all the PCs so was fast, only burning I felt was on the lateral hop over bar in my hips and some in the lungs around round 3

Carolina Fitness Challenge

On friday Jan 11 day before comp I didn't have much time before leaving town and just decided to do some light movement for about 15 mins to get bloodflow going. Did 1 min each of AD, row, jump rope and dynamic ROMs.

17 hour day Sat Jan 12

Woke up at 5am in Winston Salem at friends house to get going and drive on to Durham for athlete check in. There were 17 heats of athletes so. I was assigned to heat 6 of the 5 RX women's heats.

Event 1 - I was excited for this one and it proved to be my best event.

In 5 mins complete
30 ring dips
and in the remaining time AMRAP Squat Cleans (95#)

I placed 5th overall in this event with a score of 60 reps, getting 30 Squat cleans, which I was really stoked about. I went out on the ring dips to amap and got 12 in first go, then kept with 5-3 in a row. I was first off the rings, just by seconds and started into the cleans. It was a blur of a big super set to start, then quick singles?

Due to weather the original Event #2 (Box jump ladder) was moved into Event 1 and went like this.

After Dips and Cleans you rested 1 min and then had 4 mins to find a max box jump height. You could do 30 secs at the end of airsquats for a tie breaker.

I made it to 37 inches and then logged in 32 airsquats. In this event I place 27th I think? Legs really didn't feel too bad jumping after the cleans, surprisingly.



Event #2 -

100m sprint with a turnaround at the 50m mark. Pick up lax ball off of cone at turnaround and bring it back.

Field was muddy and a bit slick. Luckily Shanna borrowed some cleats from Christmas and I used them too, which made things a lot better but I was tentative on the turnaround despite the cleats and didn't trust them. Time was 17. 69 I think?

Event #3 - Really exposed on of my weaknesses - over head pressing

so on and so forth...

The 115# was difficult for me. I had to split jerk these in sets of 2 and then drop bar and clean it back up. My max C&J at the time is 135#, so 115# felt doable but heavy and workout was slow. 85% of 135 is exactly 114.75, awesome!
Room for improvement in the SOH category. T2B were easy. Score was 43 reps I believe, completed the round of 6 and began the round of 7 on the SOH. 
Giving myself the benefit of the doubt and some perspective last year at this event in the 1RM C&J event I barely got 115#, so doing it in a workout this year is some improvement.



Overall finished up 24 out of 48. Onward.

was worried about wall walks in this one, but they got easier as I went

So I took to heart what James said in the Big Dawg Blog webinar the other day that if you suck at something you should practice it. So this afternoon I did some snatch work as this is an obvious limiter for me.

Hang squat snatch off blocks (from mid thigh) - 2 reps every 45secs x 10; used 50-70% 1 rm

Build to a max squat snatch - focused on analyzing my technique, video every rep so I could pick apart form, hit a PR at 95# that has been a long time in the making! Hallelujah! Actually hit 95# two more times after the PR lift and they got better. Needless to day there were some ugly lifts in there at 90# and one 95# attempt that had me on one knee.

Figured out technique pieces for me -  set up with feet slightly wider than normal and focused on pushing against floor more in my triple extension than jumping, both appear to have helped.Extreme mental focus also helped me.

I competed on a RX Team with Amber, Sean and Rick. We had 3 events to tackle:

"Antlers"

For time:
30 Muscle Ups
30 HSPU
30 Deadlift   275/185
30 Squat Cleans   185/125

As a coed team we only got 2 bars so had to choose whether men or women would do the DLs or Squat Cleans. Amber and I shared the DLs. Sean and Rick did squat cleans, Amber did the HSPUs, and Rick, Sean and I shared the MUs.  


"Bear"

One completed full set of:

-power or squat clean
-front squat
-push press or push jerk
-back squat
-push press or push jerk


Athletes must pause between each movement.  They must completely open hips after each movement.  Overheads must be locked out with feet in original stance.

2 team members have 5 minutes. to complete the heaviest Bear complex  possible (each).  Then the last 2 team members have 5 minutes.  All team members can assist with changing weight.  The combined total of all team mates BEAR will be the score.

Amber and I started the first 5 mins. I hit 120# to open, then attempted 125# and just missed the jerk behind the neck, then as time was counting down I made another attempt at 125# and got it solid!

Our combined team score was 705.

TASK 2: 4 rope climbs
TASK 3: 25 thrusters 95/65
TASK 4: 25 KB 70/53
TASK 5: 25 toes through rings
TASK 6: 75 double unders


Team member A begins at Task 1. When Team member A advances to Task 2, Team Member B may begin Task 1. When Team Member A advances to Task 3, Team Member B may advance to Task 2, provided that they have completed Task 1. When Team Member B advances to Task 2, Team Member C may begin Task 1. ETC...

All tasks must be completed in order, by every team member. No task can be done at the same time by 2 different team members. Only 1 team member on a Task at a time. Wod ends when the last team member finishes the last task.

Our time was 16:45 and our best event of the day. We took second place in this event for coed teams and overall third fast time of all 70 teams. Order was Rick, Becca, Sean, and Amber finished us off strong with an UB set of 25 toes to ring and UB 75 Double Unders.

in prep for competing tomorrow in Garage Games Reindeer Games I worked the Jerk from behind the neck off racks and hit 125# which is my goal for the Bear complex at the comp

Felt good and recovered after rest, easy pace to hold.
Toward the end forearm fatigue set in, possibly from the CTB chin ups 2 days ago or from simply working with my hands much of each day as a manual therapist.
